Ball Hockey Alberta is the unified governing body for the sport of ball hockey in Alberta, formed through the merger of the Alberta Minor Ball Hockey Association (AMBHA) and Wild Rose Ball Hockey Alberta on January 25, 2025. Our mission is to grow and support the sport of ball hockey by fostering competitive opportunities, community engagement, and player development across all levels.
Ball Hockey Alberta builds upon decades of dedication to the sport:
Canada’s oldest ball hockey association and the recognized Provincial Sport Organization under the Canadian Ball Hockey Association, WRBHA carried a legacy of competitive excellence and provincial leadership, guided by its slogan:
“BALL HOCKEY. PLAY IT. LIVE IT.”
Established on June 25, 2001, AMBHA became the official governing body for minor ball hockey in Alberta. Beginning with Edmonton Minor, Edmonton Metro, and Calgary Super Leagues, it has since grown to include member leagues across the province, from Medicine Hat and Sherwood Park to St. Albert, Grande Prairie, Fort McMurray, and beyond.
The Provincial Championships are a cornerstone of Alberta’s ball hockey community, hosted in cities across the province since 2009. From Edmonton to Medicine Hat, Grande Prairie, and beyond, these events showcase Alberta’s talent and passion for the sport.
The Western Challenge Cup is a premier event in minor ball hockey, uniting top teams from across Western Canada since 2013. From Alberta to British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, the tournament highlights regional talent and the growing strength of the game.
The National Championships are the pinnacle of minor ball hockey in Canada, bringing together the country’s top teams since 1991. From coast to coast, the event showcases elite talent, celebrates community pride, and crowns Canada’s best in the sport.
As we embark on this new chapter, Ball Hockey Alberta is committed to advancing the sport for generations to come. Our vision includes:
Ball Hockey Alberta invites everyone to join us in shaping the future of our sport. Together, we will continue to celebrate the spirit of competition, teamwork, and community that defines ball hockey in Alberta.
